Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-28
PictureCap is built around one idea: your photos stay with you. This policy explains what that means for the PictureCap apps (iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows) and for this website, picturecap.app. If anything here is unclear, write to contact@picturecap.app.
1. The short version
- PictureCap has no cloud server. Your photos and videos are copied from your phone to a computer you own (the "host"), over your home network, and optionally burned to discs you keep.
- We, the developers, do not receive, see or store your photos, videos, albums or their metadata.
- You do not need to register an email address or an internet account to use PictureCap. Accounts exist only on your own host.
- This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers.
2. Data handled by the PictureCap apps
Your photos and videos
When you back up, the phone app reads the original files from your photo library (including Live Photo pairs, RAW files and embedded metadata such as date and GPS location) and sends them directly to your paired host on the same local network. Files are saved on the host, or on the drives and discs you choose, exactly as they are. Nothing is uploaded to servers operated by us.
Accounts on your host
Family member accounts, passwords and pairing records are created and stored on your own host. They are not sent to us. The host owner can revoke paired devices at any time.
Connection security
The phone and the host talk over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The host generates its own certificate; during pairing (with a one-time code) your phone remembers it and afterwards only trusts that host.
On-device analysis
Features such as text, object and scene search on Android and the photo map work from data on your own devices. Recognition runs offline on the phone and does not modify your original files.
Private library
Photos you move into the private library are encrypted on your device. Keep your private-library password safe: we cannot see it and may not be able to help you recover it.
Permissions
Depending on your platform, the apps ask for access to your photo library (to read the originals you choose to back up), to your local network (to find and talk to your host) and to the camera (to scan the pairing QR code). You can change these permissions in your system settings at any time.
Services run by others
Some steps can involve your platform provider rather than us. For example, if your iPhone uses iCloud's "Optimize iPhone Storage", iOS may first download the original from iCloud before PictureCap can back it up; that exchange is between your device and Apple. Map views may load map imagery from a map service provided by your operating system or a third party, which can see your IP address and the area being displayed, but not your photos.
If PictureCap is distributed through app stores, the stores (for example Apple's App Store or Google Play) process downloads and any payments under their own privacy policies. We do not receive your card details.
3. This website
- No cookies, no trackers. picturecap.app does not set cookies and does not load analytics, advertising or social-media scripts. Images and videos are served from this site itself, and text uses your device's own system fonts.
- Language choice. If you pick a language, it is remembered in your browser's local storage (key
pc-lang). It stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can clear it by clearing this site's data in your browser. - Hosting. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and request details to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
4. When you email us
If you write to contact@picturecap.app, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. The address is forwarded to our mailbox by Cloudflare Email Routing. We use your message only to reply and to improve PictureCap, and we do not sell or share it for marketing. Please do not send photos or passwords unless we ask for a specific file to solve a problem. You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time.
5. Your control over your data
Because your photos and accounts live on your own devices and discs, you are in control: you can view, export or delete them on your host at any time. Deleting something in PictureCap removes the copy PictureCap manages; it does not touch the originals in your phone's system photo library. Discs you have burned are write-once and can only be destroyed physically. For anything you have sent us by email, contact us to access or delete it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local data protection law.
6. Children
PictureCap is a family tool, but it is not directed at children to sign up for anything, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Accounts on a family host are created by the host owner.
7. Changes
PictureCap is still in development and testing. If we change how data is handled, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
